Blog Assignment #3

"Battled child labour, boy, 12, murdered." In 1995 thi headline caught Craig Kielburger's attention, but no one knew what was about to come next! Him and 11 of his closest friends gathered together fom school to spark an entire social movement of fighting child labour. Now with over million young people in over 45 countries Free the Children is largest network of children helping children through education!

In the past little while Participant media teamed up with Free The Children as corporate sponsors. Particiapant media believes that an inspiring story well told can make a change! They help provide  in-depth website and technological support. Along with telling coompelling stories and bringing awareness to real issues.

Jim Berk said, “Investing in a company that specializes in media, consumer products and leisure activities for socially-responsible young people who will take their roles of community activists into their adult lives fits perfectly with our strategy to develop a portfolio of investments in business which are both profitable and a force for positive change in the world. I can't think of a better way to reach hundreds of thousands of budding young activists and expand the audience for our entertainment projects and social action campaigns.”

Kielburger said, “We’re thrilled to have the support of Participant Media, the entertainment company involved with such powerful and inspiring films as An Inconvenient Truth, The Kite Runner, Darfur Now and The Visitor. Their guiding principle that a good story, well told, can change the world, is perfectly compatible with the Me to We philosophy and movement, which is built on the belief that it is possible to affect change in the world through our simple everyday actions and choices, and we look forward to joining forces with them.”

Through our media, socially responsible choices and leadership experiences, we support Free The Children’s work with youth creating global change. Every trip, t-shirt, song, book, speech, thought and choice adds up to a fun, dynamic lifestyle that’s part of the worldwide movement of we. Fifty percent of Me to We’s net profits after taxes goes to support the work of Free The Children, helping to ensure that, one day soon, Free The Children’s already low administrative costs go down to zero. That means every dollar a child raises at a garage sale or collects at a coin drive goes right to the projects they’re working to support. Free The Children, which the brothers started in 1995, is now the world’s largest network of children helping children, building more than 500 schools, serving 50,000 impoverished children and assisting hundreds of communities with water and sanitation projects, medical resources and alternative income programs. The organization has received innumerable awards, been featured in the world’s largest media outlets and has created friendships and innovative programs with leading partners including Oprah’s Angel Network. Both benefit each other very well, by working hand in hand to bring awareness, and provide huge media exposure especially to our youth!

Blog Assignment 2 --- Who`s that GIRL

Fri, July 09, 2010 - 10:17PM 0 Comments

For our second assignment we were asked to "be the star of our own show", in creating our own show and projecting the image we would want to portray. Excited to get a creative, I very quickly became torn...should I let my dry sense of humour and wit show through in a comedy of some sort or. Do I let my love for giving advice and helping others take the stage?? Then it hit me, why not combine both? Man, am I a genius or what!

So I would like to present to you Howling Coyote, featuring your host me! Howling Coyote is steering clear of the traditional talk show persona, with fun and exciting entertainment! Targeted towards a young audience, ill keep you guessing what’s coming next from a Channel Fashion Show one day to a Free The Children broadcast the next! Keeping things alive and upbeat I not only want to keep things straightout hilarious but to educate, covering topics like child poverty, environmental issues and global subjects, along with promoting a healthy body image and life style. To encourage our youth to stand up and speak out as leaders and to demonstrate positive change is a main goal of mine. But remember its all with a bite, with live performances, guests, games, and so much more, this is one hour of the week you don’t want to miss!

Bu of course none of this would be possible without my sponsors Faze Media and Frank Ideas and Execution. Both have come together to help me in my quest to provide a show for young people where they can feel comfortable, open, and entertained! Faze media provides us with the best coverage across the nation, as the number one student source for everything hip, they keep us up to date and informed! Frank Ideas and Execution has helped me get my revolution up and running with professional marketing and media skills, providing clean and sophisticated marketing ideas!

So why did they decide to jump in and shake hands...because were giving teens the 101 on how to survive those years, being young myself I want to demonstrate being a positive role model, not only do I want to be on the same page as my viewers, but to be both informative and helpful, all with little compassion and humour! Stay tuned as we premier next spring on all major broad casting stations!

Blog Assignment #1

Welcome to the Cariboo! My name is Evaline and as a representative of the Cariboo-Chilcotin Coast, I am here to give you the most exciting and in-depth tour possible! With extensive research done covering every nook and cranny of this place I call home, I want to share some of what the west has to offer.

With over 120,000 square kms and only 73,000 inhabitants, the Cariboo-Chilcotin Coast is both peaceful and pristine. The perfect destination to revive your soul.Breath in an unmatched sense of grandeur and adventure, and renew your mind, body, and soul in this magnificent region.

With the stunning Coast Mountains in the West to the Cariboo Mountains in the East, exists a vast area full of ancient footpaths, outstanding waterways, open grasslands, and colourful mountain trails. Find yourself immersed in adventure with thrilling river rafting, ambitious mountain outings, and cycling journeys, you will truly feel alive with the experience of a life time.

From lush green rainforests and flower laden alpine meadows, to untouched rivers and a never-ending coastline, jump in and discover natures offerings as you connect with nature. Challenge yourself using skills against world-class rainbow trout, steelhead, salmon, and halibut in one of North Americas fines areas for fishing. And from majestic grizzly bears to moose, black bears, deer, big horn sheep, whales, and exceptional bird life discover your wild side in a fantastic wildlife setting.

In the mid 1800’s, the lure of “Gold” opened up the Cariboo-Chilcotin Coast region to the world, and tens of thousands of people converged on the bustling boom town of Barkerville. When the Gold Rush declined, a rich pioneering spirit was born as many prospectors settled in the area to start ranches and raise cattle of their own. Today, as horses and cattle still roam, the region’s vibrant communities and colourful characters , you will discover a pioneering sprit very much alive and well.

Now Im sure some of you only want to know about where the good food is and where to find the best room rate but the Cariboo is more then just a pit stop on a map. Diverse in landscape and weather the Cariboo-Chilcotin Coast is a world in its own. Starting out to the east you’ll enter Clinton “Gateway to the Cariboo”. A small village located on HWY 97 is both rich in history and heritage. Once an important stopping place during the gold rush. Take a walking tour through the timeless streets.

Moving farther east making you way into 100 Mill House, there is never a dull moment with never ending entertainment. Take a look through the South Cariboo Farmers Market every Friday and in mid summer be sure to check out the very interesting Garlic Festival… where all sorts of things are made from the “stinking rose”. There is also the huge annual Summer Art Show at Parkside Art Gallery, where people can browse and purchase pieces done by local artists.

Now were going to hit the road North bound to Quesnel. July is one of the best times of the year to visit, with the popular Billy Barker Days taking place! With a Saturday morning parade, kids day in LeBourdais Park, seniors activities, events and entertainment, Gold Dust Mall on Reid Street and so much more, it’s a fun filled four days for the whole family. Before you head south again, stop at the world famous Barkerville , the Gold Rush town of British Columbia! Ride the stagecoach, see the miners, pan for gold, and witness the “Hanging Judge” in action! Take a trip back in time, you wont forget it!

Now were going to head “Out West” as locals put it. Highway 20 has about 24 stops you can make, each and every one different and unique. Spanning for 457kms across the Chilcotin region, at the end you will reach Bella Coola , where BC Ferries operates the Discovery Coast Ferry Terminal to connect our beautiful area to Port Hardy on Vancouver Island. Personally living along this highway, in Hance ville, I would say it is by far my favourite area in the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast! With the crystal clear Chilcotin River and rimrock canyons right outside my door its like having the whole world in my own back yard! Truly timeless, intimate, and beautiful.

Now as the last stop on our tour we end up in Williams Lake, heart of the Cariboo and my second home. Acting as the main hub of our region I want to take you into greater detail, to make your stay all the more enjoyable! Lets start off with some accommodations, cause your going to need a few days.

Busy Like A Bee

The past few weeks have been non-stop running around! First I would like to thank Windsor Plywood for their generous donation. May 8th was defiantly a day filled with a little bit of everything! I was invited by Western Financial Group to attend the Rotary Home and Garden Show! As I was handing out raffle tickets, I met with various business’s and vendors. I met with the Williams Lake District Chamber of Commerce, pictured with the president and events coordinator.

I also met with the Got News Network, they publish the Welcome to Williams Lake Website, A wonderful source of information concerning the Cariboo. After meeting the editor , I was asked to do an interview! Returning from the MTC-W Pageant in BC , in February ,they did a story talking about upcoming adventures, in this interview I talked more about my fundraising and the upcoming National Pageant in Toronto!

While entering every contest I came across and enjoying a little home made fudge, there was tons to see, (which of course equalled a lot of walking that my feet did not appreciate) and had a blast meeting with a variety of people!

Now on the 15th of May I took a tour of the World you might say… Attending the Kiwanis International Food Fest made for one very tasty evening! Helping out my employers Big Mama’s Steakhouse, I had the opportunity to wear my sash and crown! Classified as western, we served ribs in a Jack Daniels sauce, potato croquets and moon pies, imagine an oreo cookie….but better! After attending over 200 people , we took a break and journeyed to new lands. Mexican to Italian cuisine the food was phenomenal and it was great to see som many people with different backgrounds come together for a wonderful night of culture !

Also for the past month my employers, Big Mama’s Steakhouse have been conducting a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society! Every Wednesday we wear a wig in support of cancer research, grabbing the title “Wig Wednesday”! Every customer that comes into the restaurant and orders any entrée, a dollar donation is made, and for anyone that’s comes in wearing a wig a $1.50 is donated. So far we have a had a ton of fun surprising people at the door with our bright coloured hair, spinning the wig wheel, and of course supporting a great cause. This fundraiser will continue til the end of June, and on that note it has given me a few more ideas to my own fundraising. After my final touches are put in place I will be starting up my six week fundraiser for Free The Children in the next week or two. I hope to exceed my goal, along with really influencing the idea of kids helping kids! Im more then excited to get this underway, but im even more excited that the MTC-W National Pageant is ONLY A MONTH AWAY!!!

Where is the time going? In a few short months young ladies from across Canada will be heading to Toronto for a chance to steal the crown away from Sierra Bearchell, our 2009 Miss Teen Canada World!!   Since it has been awhile since my last post,  I thought I should tell you a bit about what I have been up to.    Over the past few weeks I have attended some great events that really show off what the Cariboo-Chilcotin Coast is all about!

On April 15th and 16th, I was apart of  the 73rd Annual Williams Lake Bull Show and Sale!  As a past consignor it was exciting to meet with old friends, and make a few new ones. Though this year I was working for Sharden Polled Herefords, clipping, washing, and showing!  So Thursday we started off with the show at 1pm, Keith Altwasser was this years judge.   It turned out to be a beautiful day and even though we didn't win, we still made second place in our confirmation class!

The top awards went to Tlell Polled Herefords and Wynnk Farms! Later that evening I was asked my make an  official appearance at the Buyers and Sellers Dinner Social! With fellow BCJHA members, we handed out envelopes containing raffle tickets to a B-E-A-U tii afulll Barbque!  Now with every cattle event I have ever attended, the food is always amazing,  so with a perfect roast and homemade brownies the social did not disappoint!  Near the end of the evening I was given a "surprise" introduction by Wilf Smith, lets just say by the end of his spiel I was bright red, but it was great to meet with everyone there, tell them a bit about what Im up to, the MTC-W organization, and my platform!

Friday was sale day starting at  11am, but by ten people were rolling in to get a good seat. I mean who would want to miss out on getting their hands on an excellent herd bull prospect? Obviously most of the cattlemen from Williams Lake and the surrounding area!  All of the auctioneers did a wonderful job of making sure everyone had a good sale and of course another year of success!

Now on to the next buckin' event...

On April 18th I was invited to the 20th Anniversary Williams Lake Indoor Rodeo!  Rodeo contenders from all over BC and a few from Alberta had one last shot on Sundays final performance to win top placings and a little cash ;)  I spent most of the day at the front entrance meeting people, handing out program books, and coupons. During the first intermission I was introduced into the crowd along with the 2009 Stampede Queen, Princess, and BC Ambassador as Williams Lake Royalty! Along with the Cowboy Hall of Fame induction the 2010 Queen Contestants were also introduced.

After that we  had some time to take in all of the action, Anna Dell ( BC Ambassador) was holding a fundraiser for Free The Children selling cookies by donation in the stands! Its more then exciting to have someone else supporting a great cause, her and the other BC Ambassadors are trying to raise enough money to build a school overseas! Amazing community? I think so!

By the end of the day over $30,000 dollars in cash prizes were given out and with a spectacular opening act, the BCRA put on an explosive show! Their headed to Princeton, BC, next so uhmm you might want to find a few tickets ASAP (just saying..) :D

I feel utterly proud to have been apart of these events, the CC-C has yet again proved we really are the best place in BC! Now I still have tons to blog about , with past news and upcoming events but I don't want to leave you with a novel! So for today this is it, but I promise I'm not going to keep you in suspense for another two weeks...

Dirty coverall's to sexy sequins!

Mon, April 05, 2010 - 8:43PM 2 Comments

Couldn't get enough of that sugar crisp? Welcome to my blog!, my name is Evaline, I'm 18 years old, and I live on ranch west of Williams Lake British Columbia! This past  February I  particpated in the regional BC Miss Teen Canada-World Pageant (and no my mom did not force me)  now I am proud to be representing the beautiful Cariboo-Chilcotin Coast (the best place in BC *winks*)!

As a farm girl I am no stranger to challenges and getting my hands dirty, from raising  purebred cattle to driving a tractor. I am also a member of Sea cadets(yes, the whole shebang of drill and pressed uniforms),but  it's a ton of fun.   My love for animals has given me a  deep passion for helping others, especially children, after finishing high school I plan on perusing my ambition further by becoming a registered nurse.  As an avid supporter and sponsor for World Vision (www.worldvsion.ca) this will be my platform in Toronto this summer.  In a world of  disposable luxuries, too many children still suffer from a lack of basic human necessities that we all take for granted.  Think about how many lives we can change today.

This entire experience  so far has not only been overwhelming but a true blessing.  From coveralls to sequins, I enter this new world of networking and glamour.

So what are your first thoughts of a beauty pageant?...fake hair, shimmering gowns, toddlers and tiara's?

I know mine were, but the MTC-W organization is so much more.  From the BC pageant alone I have met some very moving and vibrant young ladies along with gaining a confidence I didn't know I had!  It's about stepping up, standing out, and the drive for change. As I have come to realize we are all beautiful and unique, this really embodies the true meaning of "Be your own kind of Beautiful".  I can't wait for July to role around as I look forward to meeting and making many new friends, along with bringing some Cariboo edge to Toronto!  So ladies take note, you cannot  miss out on this life changing experience no matter who you are or where your from!

Yours Truly

Evaline
